As the number of private football camps continues to grow in Canada. It is important to be informed and aware of the risks that may be associated with them. Improper training protocols can cause issues and injuries when there aren\u2019t any regulations around coach certifications, insurance coverages or following of Sport Canada\u2019s Long Term Athlete Development Model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All athletes are free to participate in any camps they wish, but we at Football NB wanted you to be aware of some important questions to ask before participating in events outside of Football NB, your minor association or high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Are they a non profit organization?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Are they sanctioned by Football New Brunswick and covered under Football Canada\u2019s insurance policy?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Can you see a copy of their insurance coverage?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Are all the coaches involved equipped with minimum Football Canada NCCP level training such as Safe Contact, Making Headway, Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Is the program following Sport Canada\u2019s Long Term Athlete Development guidelines?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Outside of coach certifications, what type of policies do you have in place to protect my child such as background checks?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Do you have athletic therapists present?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You can be sure that any camps offered by the following member associations follow the proper guidelines and safety measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
