Senior Women’s Team Atlantic Announces Coaching Coordinators for 2026 Nationals

Senior Women’s Team Atlantic is pleased to announce its coaching coordinators, solidifying a strong leadership team for the 2026 Senior Women’s Nationals. Working alongside Head Coach Chris Gallant, the newly appointed coordinators bring a wealth of experience, expertise, and passion to the team’s pursuit of success. The team is thrilled to welcome Danny Oliver as Defensive Coordinator, Phil MacDonald as Offensive Coordinator, and Meagan Ferguson as Special Teams Coordinator.

Danny Oliver arrives with a proven track record of success in women’s football. He has led the Saint John Storm to multiple Maritime Women’s Football League (MWFL) championships over the past decade. Demonstrating his commitment to developing female athletes, he was recently appointed Defensive Coordinator for the U18 New Brunswick Women’s team, which will compete in Calgary this summer. Danny’s dedication extends to grassroots development through his involvement in Football New Brunswick’s Fit506 program. He also serves as the Defensive Coordinator for the St. Malachy’s Saints, continues to play for the Saint John Wanderers, and is a member of their executive.

Phil MacDonald joins the team with a distinguished coaching career spanning decades. Since 2016, he has served as the Head Coach of the Halifax Xplosion Women’s Football team. His experience includes a position coach role at Saint Mary’s University during the 2022-23 season, and he was honored to serve as Head Coach for the Women’s Team Atlantic in 2022. From 2016 to 2023, Phil was the Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator at Lockview High School, earning Football Nova Scotia Coach of the Year honors in 2019. A proud alumnus of Mount Allison University, where he participated in the 1991 Vanier Cup, Phil’s coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, personal growth, and athletic development.

Meagan Ferguson, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and former MWFL athlete, brings a unique blend of coaching and mental performance expertise to the team. As Head Coach for Team PEI’s female flag programs since 2020, Special Teams Coordinator for Team New Brunswick’s U18 women’s tackle team in 2022, and a defensive coach with the CFL’s Ottawa REDBLACKS in 2022, Meagan has consistently worked with athletes at the highest levels. Through her company, Mind Matters, she provides athletes, teams, and coaches with the tools to achieve peak performance. Meagan’s focus on both the physical and mental aspects of the game will be invaluable as the team prepares for Nationals in 2026.
